The only minor down side is most cases won't work with it. The weight and size are ok.
I get more then a full days hard use out of it. Using this on a 3GS and I'm very happy with it.
If you want a feather light really thin phone then you won't like the Mophie.I'm very happy with the amount of battery life I'm getting. It about doubles the thickness and weight of the phone; I don't find that a problem at all.
I actually like the increase in heft; I find it easier to hold onto the phone with some extra size. And it's easy to use, you just use the same charging cable that came with your iPhone.
Mophie sells some nice case that work very well.
The cube caused the phone to warn, "not a supported accessory for charging".I contacted Mophie and they offered an exchange for a Juice Pack Air. I owned one of these a few months ago before it was stolen. This was a very good unit, kept it's charge through 6 hours of heavy use and charged while the phone was connected to either a computer USB or Apple iPhone charge cube.I've gone through two of these units recently and both have: 1) Terrible battery life after a full 8 hour charge(often less than 1 hour, and sometimes NONE) 2) I could not use the iPhone charge cube, only computer USB. Why did they not offer to replace my Juice Pack with a functioning unit. I passed and got a Miccus Charge Block.Miccus CMC608 ChargeBlock for iPod/iPhone
I keep it charged for the occasion when I'll be away for a charger for a long time, and that's about it.If it were more durable and better finished, better charge -- I'd love it. 3) After a while, the battery doesn't power it nearly as long.I have an iPhone 3G, which is a beautifully designed phone.
However, here are the drawbacks:1) The "rubberized" finish on the case, wears off in areas, and starts to look like crap.2) On the side, there are 2 rubbery strips, added to improve grip. It does what it says: gives you extra battery life.
So after a few weeks in/out of my pocket -- they start to come loose, and come off. They are crap, too.
They're attached -- get this -- via 2 sided sticky tape, basically. This Juice Pack, while a great idea, falls short.
Great idea, poor execution.
I really like the product. I agree the back rubber comes off. My wife has one. Not cool. Plus if you get a phone call and take it off charge while you talk 40 minutes, you have undermined the charging of both units.I have never had a dead iphone since I started using mophie. I find it will drain much more quickly if you leave it connected. It seems to suck the power off if the mophie is out of power and is still connected to the iphone.I never sync or leave the juice pack on to charge my phone.
I travel with two fully charged Juice Packs ready to go. I use the iphone without the juice pack until it is nearly drained, then I stick it on. I also - of course - make sure my iphone is fully charged. She actually charges the Juice Pack and then puts it on the phone.
I have read everyone's reviews. I find that if you are traveling you need the phone and the mophie pack fully charged by morning. If you try to charge them together overnight, it takes much longer for the charge. I use the iphone's ipod on the plane and still rarely come close.I am likely to get a third soon. I do not go to the Mophie until it goes below 20%. Her phone is dead about every other day. I use mine quite a bit differently than most people. I often swap mine out with her to give her a charge.
In airports I still connect the phone to my laptop. First time it tells me 10%, the juice pack goes on and stays on.Another tip, once your iphone is charged and you also see the four lights are now OFF, take the Juice Pack off your phone. She rarely uses it the ways I have discussed above. Not real efficient, but she gets by with her car adapter when it is dead or nearly dead and she needs to make a call.
On a 3G S they shut off after a brief time once the phone is inserted. Bought three. It will only wake up if you apply power to the USB port. Works great on the 3G. However, two of them are for 3G S units and Mophie says they "are not supported for the 3G S". That kinda misses the point. Great design if it would just work correctly.
